Juneteenth Celebration was held in Salisbury, NC today at Kelsey-Scott Park. The event consisted of speakers, gospel choirs, vendors and a large crowd of attendees. All gathered in commemoration of the time after the Civil War that the last slaves learned they had been emancipated by Abraham Lincoln.

The gospel music, on a professional sound system,
was very soul stirring.
People were seen all over the park moving to the music
and even singing along.
Admission was free. We spent as much or as little as we wanted since all we paid for was what we choose to buy. Vendors offered a variety of products from clothing, to accessories to food. My girls and I were especially attracted to the customized jewelery wares from Sunshine Custom Accessories. Anita, who designs the jewelry and offers classes, was as friendly as she was creative. She created her pieces and conversed with us without missing a beat. We're looking forward to having a jewelry-making party with my girls and their friends. (Read more about the products for sale soon.) The best thing about the event might've been the food available. Our favorite was the dipped chicken sold by a local favorite known as, "Jerry." My husband rambled on and on about his homemade sauce so passionately that Jerry gave him his phone number and told him to call for some when my husband is in his neighborhood.
